BHC class trains home care givers for elderly

The Home Care Giver class at Black Hawk College teaches students how to provide support and care so elderly residents can safely stay in their homes.

Students will learn rules, regulations, how to record daily logs, basic signs of dementia, compassion, listening and companionship.

The class will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 17, at the college's Outreach Center in East Moline. Cost is $94.

End of life care training for health professionals

Black Hawk College is offering End of Life Care Training for nurses, CNAs, hospice aides and health professionals.

Topics will include care goals and decisions, pain and symptom management, care at the time of dying, grief and bereavement, and self care for the health professional.

The class will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 15 to Nov. 3, at the Quad-Cities Campus in Moline. Cost is $105.
