The man who battled ALS, known as Lou Gehrig's disease, for 16 years and was a standout football player at Aloha High School and Oregon State has died.
Mike Lopez Jr., 49, was an All-Pac-10 defensive back. He spent most of his last days confined to his bed and used a respirator to breath. He communicated through blinking his eyes and through a caregiver.
The family of Lopez will hold a memorial service for him in the auditorium at Aloha High School, 18550 Southwest Kinnaman Road, Aloha, OR, 97007 on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m.
